California requires a certified CF1R energy compliance report for every new single-family home, room addition, and qualifying remodel. We prepare your Title 24 report using CEC-approved software and register it in CHEERS, accepted by all California building departments.
California Title 24 compliance applies across a range of residential construction activities. Here's what we handle:
Full CF1R compliance for new single-family homes from the ground up. All 16 California climate zones.
Adding new conditioned square footage triggers Title 24 requirements. We calculate compliance for the addition scope.
Significant remodels that alter the building envelope or mechanical systems may require an updated compliance report.
Manufactured homes placed on permanent foundations in California have Title 24 energy compliance requirements as well.
A residential CF1R is a comprehensive document. It doesn't just cover insulation, it accounts for every energy-consuming or energy-affecting system in your home. Here's what goes into your report:
Wall, roof, and floor insulation R-values; window and skylight U-factors and SHGC; infiltration and air sealing requirements by climate zone.
Heating and cooling equipment efficiency minimums (SEER2, HSPF2, EER2); duct insulation and leakage testing requirements; whole-house ventilation rates.
Water heater type and efficiency requirements; solar water heating provisions; heat pump water heater specifications where applicable.
Indoor lighting power compliance; high-efficacy requirements; solar-ready and EV-ready provisions; battery storage readiness where required.
California's Title 24, Part 6 Building Energy Efficiency Standards are updated every few years and are among the most stringent residential energy codes in the country. The current standards went into effect January 1, 2023.
The state requires that every permitted residential project meet these standards, and the compliance must be verified through a CF1R report generated by CEC-approved software and registered in the statewide CHEERS database. Without a valid CF1R, your building department cannot issue a permit.
